University Heads Welcome Launch of Discussion document: "Towards a National Framework of Qualifications"

Dr. Roger Downer, Chairman, speaking on behalf of the Conference of Heads of Irish Universities [C.H.I.U.] welcomed the publication “Towards a National Framework of Qualifications – A Discussion Document” by the National Qualifications Authority. He said that the establishment of a national framework of qualifications was a key strategic undertaking for the country which would reinforce the quality and reputation of our education system both nationally and internationally.

“In a world where education, particularly higher education, is operating in an increasingly global and competitive market it is vital that Irish education represents itself as a cohesive and integrated system which is easily understood and negotiated by both students and employers”.

Dr. Downer said that the Discussion Document raised important issues of concern to the universities and a considered response would be made by C.H.I.U. to the NQAI as part of the consultation process launched today.
