Irish University Students

International Opportunities for current university students

IUA universities offer a huge variety of opportunities for Irish students to get involved in international programmes to study or train abroad as part of their degree programme.

  • Exchange Programmes where you can go to a partner university to study abroad for a semester/academic year
  • Work placements abroad where you go to a company/enterprise in another country to complete a traineeship/internship.
  • Joint/Dual degrees where you complete part of your programme of study abroad and, in return, receive a qualification from multiple universities
  • Volunteer abroad where you go abroad for anywhere between a couple of weeks and an academic year to volunteer at an overseas project or organisation
  • Short-term mobilities, which are opportunities like overseas field trips, summer schools and overseas conferences, where you go abroad for a couple of days/weeks as part of a module.

For more information about some of the opportunities available, check out:

  • Study or Train Abroad: For links to the websites of our members exchange offices, click here. We also offer some advice on the funding opportunities available to Irish students looking to go on a mobility period.
  • Volunteer Abroad: StudentVolunteer.ie has a section on the website dedicated to overseas volunteering opportunities. The website covers everything from the process of how to apply, some of the opportunities available and what you need to consider before going abroad.
