IUA reflects on the legacy of Chuck Feeney on the occasion of his death

“Philanthropy is best, not when it steers the grantees’ ship, but helps put the wind in their sails. Chuck Feeney”

As we mark the passing of  Charles “Chuck” Feeney, we reflect on his work and that of Atlantic Philanthropies and its profound impact on the island of Ireland, north and south.

Through the opportunities they provided, Chuck Feeney and Atlantic Philanthropies have left a huge legacy in Ireland and our universities value and remember his transformative contribution to education and research.

Over many years and numerous projects the support provided by Chuck Feeney to our universities created the bedrock for a knowledge revolution in Ireland.

Through PRTLI Atlantic Philanthropies encouraged a strategic approach to research requiring third level institutions to define their individual research priorities and to work together to meet national needs.

Today our universities are still meeting those needs.

We are grateful for the generosity of Chuck Feeney, his vision, and his belief in the importance of investing in higher education.

We express our deepest sympathies to his family. May he rest in peace.
