IUA European Election Manifesto asks candidates and political parties to support key asks for EU Research Funding and Erasmus

The Irish Universities Association (IUA) launched their EU Elections Manifesto and have asked Candidates and Political Parties to support three main priorities at a European level for third-level students and universities, including:

  1. Securing more research funding for Ireland in the next EU FP10 Research Programme;
  2. Expanding the Erasmus Programme to enable more Irish students study and gain experience abroad;
  3. Providing more support for the European Universities Initiative, which the majority of our universities are involved with.

Other national issues for the sector will be addressed in our upcoming Irish general election manifesto.

We are also using this opportunity to remind candidates of the key contribution of Irish universities to the economic, social and cultural success of Ireland including;

  • Producing the pipeline of high skills talent for our workforce
  • Essential partners in supporting foreign direct investment.
  • Underpinning the innovation needs of enterprise through our research activities
  • Tackling major national challenges such as housing, health and climate action
  • Fostering the creativity of the nation through the myriad of arts and culture courses that they run.
