IUA Statement: Higher Education Institutions Welcome Guidelines for Public Health Measures

Higher Education Institutions in Ireland have unanimously welcomed the publication of the Implementation Guidelines for Public Health Measures in HEIs.

The universities represented by the IUA, together with the Institutes of Technology represented by THEA, have joined with TU Dublin to welcome the clarity the Implementation Guidelines provide for the safe resumption of on-campus activity this autumn.

The Guidelines include a range of context-specific measures for Higher Education Institutions that have been drawn up by senior public health experts within the sector and endorsed by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre of the Health Service Executive.

The over-riding objective is to ensure the safe return of all staff and students to on-campus activity this autumn.

The publication of the Guidelines follows consultation with staff union representatives under the aegis of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

Individual HEIs will now work to finalise their plans for the next academic year based on these Guidelines and in collaboration with local staff and student representatives.
