Featured Event: 4th European Universities Initiative Forum
Hosted by Maynooth University on 9–10 July 2026, the Forum brought together alliance leaders, students, policymakers, European Commission representatives and higher education stakeholders from across Europe.
Held as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Forum brought representatives of 55 university alliances, representing more than 500 universities to discuss the next phase of the European Universities Initiative.
The Forum theme:
“Walls That Stand, Scaffolding that Supports: The Future of European University Alliances” focused on the transition from project-based collaboration to sustainable long-term structures capable of delivering lasting impact across the European Education Area.
IUA’s DG Paul Johnston MC’d the event with students and chaired a discussion with four university leaders on the institutional transformations, strategic risks, and opportunities presented by deep transnational cooperation.
