The IUA welcomes the support of the Taoiseach and Government for the initiative taken by Trinity College and University College Dublin to develop an Innovation Alliance. The Universities have recently written to the Taoiseach expressing their commitment to Government’s plans for the Smart Economy and indicating how they can help drive those plans forward.
The Taoiseach in his address at the launch of the new initiative confirmed his strong support for university collaboration generally, and announced the establishment of an Innovation Taskforce to accelerate research and commercialisation through improved linkages between the universities, the state agencies and the private sector. This development is particularly welcomed by the universities.
“This initiative confirms that the universities have a central role to play in accelerating our economic recovery” said Ned Costello IUA Chief Executive. “The Taoiseach and Ministers signalled that they welcome more such approaches by the sector and we look forward to further collaboration with Government in that regard.”
