Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in the University Sector: Policies, case studies and issues arising
The University Framework Implementation Network was jointly established by the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland and the Irish Universities Association in 2007. The purpose of the network is to deepen the implementation of the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) within the university sector, primarily through the exchange of experience and practice between members.
The network is pleased to announce the publication of the report: Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in the University Sector: Policies, case studies and issues arising. This second report of the network focuses on RPL, an increasingly important aspect of lifelong learning in the university sector in Ireland and abroad.
The report sets out national and international policy and discourse on RPL and through a number of case studies describes examples of RPL policies and practices within the Irish university sector today. A discussion of the issues which emerged from these case studies of the use of RPL in the areas of addiction studies, nursing and midwifery and business studies. The experiences of members of the FIN inform the concluding part of the report which also offers a number of principles which may be considered by higher education institutions as they further develop RPL.
