In the fourth issue of the IUA newsletter we have a special feature from Ned Costello on his first year as Chief Executive of IUA. During the year we said goodbye to our colleague Siobhan Harkin who joined the HEA as Manager of Capital Programmes. We give details on a memorandum of understanding which has been agreed between IUA and the China Scholarship Council for the exchange of PhD students between Ireland and China. You'll find news and photographs of recent brochure launches including the new Marie Curie Brochure - "Attracting Talented Researchers to Ireland - A Review of the Marie Curie Programme" launched in December. In the brochure a selection of success stories are presented of researchers funded during the Sixth Framework Programme (2002-2006) across highly diverse disciplines in academia and industry. Also featured in the newsletter are the visits of the European Research Council and the Belgian Royal Couple and we give the results of the inter university Equality Photo Competition.
In the third issue of the IUA newsletter we focus on staff changes in the IUA. The Association's new Chief Executive, Ned Costello, took up his position in mid January, Dagmar Meyer became the new Marie Curie National Contact Point in April and Westley Forsythe took up his position as 4th Level Network Coordinator in May. The IUA also said goodbye to former Director of the IUA, Michael McGrath. Also featured is the IUA Success in the First Round of the Strategic Innovation Fund, Academy Award Success for Anil Kokaram of TCD and the IUA Council Call for a Knowledge Foresight for the Humanities and Social Sciences.
In the second issue we discussed what the allocation of over €42 million will mean to the universities and other third level institutions across the country under the Government's Strategic Innovation Fund for higher education. We announced the appointment of Ned Costello as new Chief Executive of the IUA. Also featured was the launch of new IUA Marie Curie Brochures, the publication of a report “University Infrastructure Investment – A National Priority” and we gave details of a new report showing how few ‘Non Leaving Certificate’ Students enter university.
In the inaugural issue of the IUA newsletter we stated the aim of IUA e-news to keep the academic, research and business communities up to date with IUA activities on behalf of the 7 universities. Featured stories included the IUA congratulating government on underwriting 4th level skills, the Introduction of the new European Research Council and a new Funding Model for the Universities. Our featured event was the IUA Humanities and Social Sciences Conference in Oct 2006.
