New IUA Publications to Encourage Greater Participation in Marie Curie Funding Schemes for FP7

Over the past four years research income form the Marie Curie Programme amounts to an impressive €55million. Irish success is evident as the European average share of funding for this programme is 3.7% while for Ireland it is 19.2%.

Of this total 18% has gone to Industry based in Ireland, large and small. Contract values ranged from €300,000 to €1.7million for single companies. From 2002-2006 Marie Curie income has supported companies to attract over 250 high quality researchers from around the world to Ireland.

Irish Humanities and Social Sciences researchers have participated in increasing numbers ad with significant success in the Marie Curie Programme. Irish researchers have not only succeeded in securing Marie Curie funding, they have also been selected by rigorous international peer review as being at the forefront of their field. For example, in 2006 the top proposals in Social Sciences and Economics were from Ireland.

Over the next seven years €4.7bn will be available through the Marie Curie programmes to fund research in all areas of industry. To encourage participation in FP7 the IUA have initially produced Marie Curie leaflets focusing on industry and Humanities and Social Sciences which will be distributed in December. A more comprehensive Marie Curie brochure will be distributed in January 07 and will contain case studies from across all areas of academia and industry. The brochure will look back on the achievements of the last 4 years and will look forward to future successes over the next 7 years.

If you would like a copy of either of these leaflets or any IUA publications please contact Lia O'Sullivan on lia.osullivan@iua.ie.
