6TH ANNUAL IUQB CONFERENCE (with IUA & UCD)
OPPORTUNITES & CHALLENGES IN DEVELOPING 4TH LEVEL IRELAND
October 14th & 15th 2008
O'Reilly Hall, UCD, Belfield, Dublin 4
The primary aim of this 2 day conference was to communicate to interested parties (policy makers, research funders, academics, university managers, non-academic employers, students) the institutional practice in Irish universities and the rationale for this. Plenary speakers provided an international and national perspective to emerging Irish graduate education practice and presented a compelling argument for the importance of developing ‘4th Level Ireland’. Finally, the conference gave an overview of how the PhD experience is changing to develop PhD graduates of both disciplinary depth and interdisciplinary/generic breadth to respond effectively to these challenges.
