BOLOGNA EXPERT COLLOQUIUM
Supporting the Design of Discipline-Specific Learning Outcomes

This workshop, which is funded under the Bologna Expert programme, supported by the Higher Education Authority and the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland, and which is being run in conjunction with the university sector Framework Implementation Network will:
- Explore how information on, and experience in, designing discipline-specific learning outcomes drawn from the Tuning projects can be utilised by those responsible for programme design in Ireland;
- Examine case studies in particular fields of learning and their application, including an arts/humanities discipline, as well a science/technology discipline; and
- Present, for discussion and review, the draft principles on designing discipline-specific learning outcomes being developed by the university sector Framework Implementation Network
The Tuning Educational Structures in Europe started in 2000 as a project to link the political objectives of the Bologna Process and, at a later stage, the Lisbon Strategy to the higher educational sector. Over time Tuning has developed into a process; an approach to (re-)designing, developing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing quality in first, second and third cycle degree programmes. As part of the methodology, Tuning has developed reference points for first and second cycle programmes for generic and subject-specific competences for a number of subject areas. These reference points have been used to define cycle descriptors. Further information on the Tuning Process is available from:
