This report, launched by HEA Chairman Mr Michael Kelly, provides an overview of Access/Foundation courses offered across the higher education sector in Ireland, including those in collaboration with the further education sector. It aims to identify good practice and contribute to national policy formulation.
The report, compiled by Dr Phyllis Murphy, addresses the issues of funding, links with the national qualifications framework, the interface with further education and the need for systematic data on the background, retention and progression of students on Access/Foundation courses in higher education.
The report is the result of close co-operation and a shared interest between the Irish Universities Association, HEA National Access Office, DES Equity of Access Unit, Institutes of Technology Ireland, Dublin Institute of Technology and a number of universities.
