NAIRTL’s 4th Bologna Symposium
Integrating generic competences in the Curriculum

NAIRTL’s 4th Symposium in the Bologna series will take place in the Aula Max in University College Cork on the 30th of September 2009. Using case studies and examples from European and international leaders, the Symposium will examine how generic competences could be integrated, taught and assessed in Higher Education Institutes in Ireland.

Speakers include Professor George Francis, Department of Chemistry, University of Bergen, Norway who will speak about his experiences and views on the integration of generic competences in the curriculum for doctoral studies in Chemistry. Dr Peter Jordan, Head of Research in Art Design Theory and Practice Group, Waterford Institute of Technology, will address competence development in undergraduate students particularly those studying the humanities. Dr Gillian Armstrong, Ulster Business School, University of Ulster, will address generic competences and curriculum integration for Masters programmes in Business and Marketing.

The deadline for the submission of poster abstracts is the 11th of September.

NAIRTL’s 3rd Annual Conference
Research-Teaching Linkages: PRACTICE & POLICY

NAIRTL’s 3rd Annual Conference will be held on the 11th & 12th of November 2009 in Trinity College Dublin. The title of this year’s conference is Research-Teaching Linkages: Practice & Policy and we aim to uncover best practice in the development of research-teaching links and to identify potential policy supports to help shape these links.

We wish to invite interest participants to submit a 300 word abstract for a paper, workshop or poster based on one of the following themes:

  • Research-enhanced teaching and learning
  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
  • Graduate Education

The deadline for abstract submission is July 31st 2009 and the submission guidelines are available at www.nairtl.ie/conference by clicking on the conference title.
