Irish Marie Curie Office

The Irish Marie Curie Office (IMCO) is the National Contact Point for the Marie Curie Programme in Ireland. The office provides advice and support to researchers, research-active organisations and companies for the preparation of proposals and in the management of their Marie Curie contracts.

The Marie Curie Programme is a key European instrument that funds both excellent researchers and those with a clear potential for future achievement. The overall objective of the programme is to provide broad support for the career-development of researchers, with a view to the successful creation of the European Research Area.

The programme consists of a set of actions, largely based on the financing of structured mobility schemes for researchers, taking into account the international dimension of science. They are essentially geared towards the development and transfer of research competencies, the consolidation and widening of researchers´ career prospects and the promotion of excellence in European research.

From the early 1980’s the programme and its predecessors have funded researchers at all stages in their career, promoting transnational and intersectoral researcher mobility in all disciplines, from the so-called ‘Hard Sciences’ to the Social Sciences and Humanities, both in the public and the private sector. The programme has helped to develop R&D in companies large and small.

Irish research institutions and companies have attracted over €60m from the Marie Curie Programme since 2002 which is 30% of Ireland’s overall apportionment from the FP6 budget. We aim to build on these successes to achieve a favorable outcome for Irish Research in FP7.

The web pages of IMCO contain information about the programme and relevant events, advice on how to prepare a successful proposal, links to useful documents as well as a number of success stories from previous application rounds.
