National University of Ireland, Maynooth is one of four constituent universities of the federal National University of Ireland. It traces its origins to the foundation of St Patrick's College, Maynooth in 1795 and is Ireland's second oldest university. NUI Maynooth has a longstanding international reputation for learning and academic excellence in the sciences and humanities. Its traditional core strengths have been augmented by new courses in Finance, Computer Science, Software and Electronic Engineering. Its reputation for research continues to grow and today there are several renowned research centers located on campus.
NUI Maynooth is a dynamic and innovative university of some 6,500 students. It is situated 25km west of Dublin and located in Ireland's only university town. Maynooth combines the historical legacy of its medieval origins with a present day location on the fringes of Dublin. The NUI Maynooth campus is adjacent to the Irish and European headquarters of many multi-national high technology companies. Regular bus and rail services link Maynooth town to Ireland's capital. NUI Maynooth offers a student-friendly environment providing world-class teaching, research facilities and courses, while still retaining a uniquely friendly and personal atmosphere.
At NUI Maynooth we are embracing the challenge of delivering world-class postgraduate education programmes, and in 2006 we have established three new Faculty-based graduate schools in Arts, Philosophy and Celtic Studies; Social Sciences; Science and Engineering. We have built on our traditional areas of academic strength to create a number of innovative and internationally-recognised research centres in areas such as Irish Cultural and Historical Traditions, Geocomputation, Immunology, Applied mathematics of complex systems, and Regional Planning and Spatial Analysis. These research centres complement and extend the excellent research and teaching carried out in academic departments and disciplines which span the Arts, Humanities, Sciences and Engineering.
Within this diverse system we have developed an extensive range of postgraduate degrees, including doctoral research programmes, taught and research masters degree courses and postgraduate diploma programmes. Full details of all courses can be found on our website at http://graduatestudies.nuim.ie.
